Winner of ITV series "Stand Up Britain"

Lea Roberts from Halifax, was elected by the viewers of ITV series "Stand Up Britain". Lea scooped the title, trophy and a 1st prize of £7000 on the live final screened by ITV1 in October 2002. Lea was up against 6 other comedians from the 144 who started in the competition, and winning the final with 75% of the total vote, including first place in London, North West, and Yorkshire regions

With a sporting background, Lea Roberts started playing for Halifax Academy at the age of 16, a promising career that looked as if it might be cut short when, at the age of 19 he suffered a serious hip dislocation in a freak tackle in an Academy match. This was very much a low point in Lea’s life, but following a determined fight to recover from injury Lea spirits were lifted when he was asked to play for his local club, Ovenden.

At the age of 24, came the high point in Lea Roberts career when one of his all time heroes, former Great Britain International Roger Millward, then coach at Halifax, signed Lea Roberts for the first team squad. Following retirement, Lea Roberts went on to coach the local rugby club he once was so proud to play for.

One of the few comedians able to work in both “mainstream” and “alternative” environments. Offering a traditional stand up act, Lea Roberts appeals to audiences young and old, with an adult, yet inoffensive and clean speech.
